Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about our free, private PDF tools.

Is this PDF editor really free?

Yes. Every tool on the site is completely free with no account, no trial period, and no watermark on your files. The site is supported by advertising, which lets us keep the tools free to use as often as you like.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This is the whole point of our tools. Everything runs in your web browser using JavaScript. Your PDF or image is opened and edited directly on your own device and is never sent to us or anyone else. When you close the tab, nothing remains on our side because we never received it.

Do I need to install any software?

No installation is needed. The tools work in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) on desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. Just open the page and start.

Will editing change the quality of my PDF?

No. Our editor draws your additions (text, signatures, highlights, images) on top of the original pages without re-compressing or rewriting the document, so the underlying quality and layout are preserved.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

Our free editor lets you add new text, cover old text with a white-out box, and place your own content on the page. It does not rewrite the document's original embedded text. This 'overlay' approach keeps the tools fast, private and reliable while covering the vast majority of everyday edits.

Is the signature legally binding?

The signature tool creates a visual signature drawn onto your PDF, which is perfect for everyday forms and documents. It is not a certified cryptographic e-signature. For legally binding signatures on formal contracts, use a qualified e-signature provider. See our disclaimer for details.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no hard limit set by us, but because processing happens on your own device, very large files (hundreds of megabytes) or documents with hundreds of pages may be slow or run out of memory, especially on older phones. For big files, a desktop browser works best.

Which browsers are supported?

All current versions of Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Safari are supported, on both desktop and mobile. For the best experience with large files, use an up-to-date desktop browser.
